Who am I?

I am a mechanical engineer with a fascination for design. I’ve created this website as a way to document all my design/research projects to show how I’ve improved and developed my skills.

Dissertation project – Design of an Axial-fed Parabolic Antenna for Rapid Deployment from a One-Unit Cube Satellite

This paper discusses the research and design process of a rapid dish deployment solution for a one-unit Cube Satellite. The design was tested to NASA’s GEVS 7000B standards with finite element analysis in SOLIDWORKS simulation package. The geometry of the design was imported into MATLAB’s antenna designer to quantify theoretical gain and directivity. Finally, the suitability of the design was discussed for use in the rapid re-establishment of communication in military applications.

RC car design project (Crash Structure)

The objective was to design and develop the crash structure for an RC car that could withstand a high-speed impact. The main challenge was to optimize the strength, stiffness, and weight of the structure while ensuring its compatibility with the rest of the car. I used various skills and tools such as CAD, FEA, MATLAB, and 3D printing to create the structure’s geometry and material. I learned a lot about structural analysis, material selection, design optimization, and testing in this project. The project was a success as the structure passed the impact test and protected the car’s components and systems. I was very satisfied with my work and the outcome of this project.

Human-Powered Rigid inflatable boat (Hull)

The objective of this project was to design a low-cost human-powered vehicle that could navigate flash flood conditions. I designed an integrated solution for hull and storage that was hydrodynamic, ergonomic, and durable. I used various skills and tools such as CAD, FEA and CFD to optimise the design. I learned a lot about buoyancy, drag, stability, and propulsion in this project. This was my first big project and taught me a lot about project management.
